Flowers—benign decorative elements, yet carrying deep meaning and symbolism—serve as gifts of both celebration and sympathy. These roses recall ornate patterns on vintage metal flatware, rendered in a palette of the era. Slightly broken, they offer a glimpse of what lies beneath. Surrounding, fragments and layers of fit together or slightly overlap, concealing most of the page of a children’s textbook below, with only stray bits of text remaining.
'Imparting / In Parting' is one of seven works created at Kolaj Fest, New Orleans, using shared and found materials from their archive. Each piece carries a sense of immediacy and explores acts of revealing and concealing, meaning and ambiguity, communication and disruption.
